Blurb
After surviving multiple tragedies, Savannah Mason is alive, yet she refuses to live. Her distorted reality makes her believe that anything other than working hard will tempt fate, thereby inciting further misfortune upon her. In her eyes, a very simple life is the only way to guarantee freedom from further pain. As a veteran suffering the horrid effects of post traumatic stress disorder, Fletcher Reilly is also a survivor, and after a chance meeting with Savannah, he makes it his mission to free her from the torment of her past. He wins her over, and they start a beautiful life. However, the more Fletcher helps Savannah, the more he falters with his own healing. Demons from his past launch a terrible assault upon him just as Savannah finally discovers how wonderful life can be. Fletcher tries to hide his struggles from her, but the day comes when he must reveal his secret. Savannah is forced to choose between sparing her fragile heart by leaving, or totally committing to the only man she’s ever truly loved. The road promises to be arduous and trying, but she decides to give it her all. Will Savannah’s love be enough to see him through the hardest battle he’s ever had to fight or will their relationship buckle under the pressure of an unseen enemy?

Shawn's Review

***** 5 Heart-wrenching Stars

It’s been a while since I had to sit down and really think about how I was going to do a book justice with my review. Yours Always did that to me. As I sit here now, hours after finishing the book, my thoughts and emotions are still all over the place. This is one of those books that reels you in fairly quickly with its genuine, sympathetic characters that you feel could be your next door neighbors. It prepares you for a page-turning, realistic story full of witty dialogue and laugh out loud moments. What it does not do, however, is prepare you for the sensitive, serious subject matter that turns out to be the meat of the book. No, that appears and leaves you bug-eyed with mouth agape. Our heroine, Savannah, plagued by a painfully dark past, is just a surprised as we are to learn that her Mr. Right, Fletcher, has demons of his own. Demons so strong, they are always there, lurking, waiting for choice moments to expose themselves. Without giving anything away (another challenge I encountered writing my review), Fletcher struggles with PTSD stemming from his time as a combat war soldier and tries to protect Savannah from his day-to-day fight with it. As a mental health professional, I usually go into reading fictional material based on real diagnoses skeptically as they are often portrayed overdramatically, insensitively and well, simply unrealistically. Yours Always did none of those. I can tell you that even though I’ve enjoyed the work of Ms. Dennis before (in an entirely different story), I see her and her work in an even brighter light now. Dennis has earned my respect and admiration as a writer able to capture the essence of a very real problem often stigmatized in our society and honor it in a way that is realistic, raw and heartbreaking, all the while remaining respectful to those affected. I laughed. I was happy. I cried. I got angry, very angry. I held my breath. I was confused. I was angry again. Heck, I was all over the place. I suppose I experienced (on a completely different level, of course) most of the emotions that those who have loved ones with this horrid illness experience. This is how we build awareness. We take something that people enjoy (reading) and we tastefully use it to educate on sensitive topics that are often minimized. Kudos to Ms. Dennis for writing such a profound story about an important subject, that was no doubt carefully researched, and for doing so with finesse. Read this one. It’ll stick with you for some time after you’ve finished, and you’ll recommend it to your friends, no doubt.
